If you collide with an unattended vehicle, such as a car parked along a street or in a parking lot, you should:
- Stop your vehicle in an area away from traffic.
- Leave a note on the vehicle that lists your name, address, phone number, and license plate number.
- Notify the police. Notifying the police is helpful because in case the note that you left on the vehicle is lost or stolen, you want a record on file to indicate that you notified the police. If no record were on file, you could be charged with leaving the scene of a crash.
