Pavement Markings

Pavement markings help drivers stay out of danger by indicating where it is safe to drive.

  • Edge lines are solid lines that show where the pavement ends and the shoulder of the road begins.
  • Driving on the shoulder of the road is prohibited.
  • Solid white lines are used on the right edge of the roadway.
  • Solid yellow lines are used on the left side of divided streets or roadways, such as roads that have a concrete median separating two opposite directions of traffic.
