If you see an emergency vehicle (such as a police car, fire truck, or ambulance) or a maintenance vehicle parked on the side of the road with its flashing lights activated, you should follow the same procedure as you would for a construction zone:
Make a lane change to leave a “buffer zone” lane between your car and the emergency vehicle
Proceed with caution.
If a lane change is not possible, reduce your speed and proceed with caution.
As always, you are responsible for the safe operation of your vehicle.
Illinois law prohibits photography and the use of wireless/cellphones within 500 feet of an emergency scene, except in certain circumstances.
