3. Apply the brakes gently to slow your vehicle.
4. If you are in slow-moving traffic, be sure to turn your head to the right and check your blind spot to ensure that no bicyclist or pedestrian is on your right. Bicyclists sometimes move faster than cars in congested traffic.
5. Steer smoothly out of the traffic lane and toward the curb as you continue to apply the brakes.
6. Set the gear selector in Park, and set the parking brake if you’re parked on a hill.
