To compensate for night driving:

  • Drive more slowly than you would during the day.
  • Increase your following distance.
  • Always keep your eyes moving. Don’t stare at brightly lighted areas.
  • Make sure headlights and windshield are clean.
  • Use headlights wisely. If driving with high beams, switch to low beams when oncoming traffic is within 500 feet and when you are within 300 feet of vehicles ahead of you.
