DUI: Zero-Tolerance Law

Since the legal drinking age in Illinois is 21

  • A driver under 21 is not allowed to transport or possess alcohol, whether opened or unopened. Penalties include the suspension of his or her driver’s license as well as criminal penalties.
  • If you’re under 21, transporting alcohol (whether opened or unopened) could result in serious trouble.

All motorists, including drivers 21 and over, are prohibited from transporting open containers of alcohol in their vehicles.
