Bicyclists: Strategies for Reducing Risk
- Drivers should not park or drive in marked bicycle lanes.
- Before opening a door, drivers (and passengers) should check for bicyclists in the adjacent lane.
- Check for bicyclists before turning left at an intersection. Like motorcycles, bicycles are small and can be less-visible on the road.
- Look to your right before making a right turn to ensure that you do not strike a bicyclist who is traveling on your right. In congested traffic, a bicyclist might be able to travel faster than a motor vehicle driver.
